Join the Government Affairs and Economic Development Committee on Wednesday, October 1 from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. on Zoom for our annual conversation with the Arlington General Assembly delegation.

Senator Adam Ebbin, Senator Barbara Favola, Delegate Patrick Hope, and Delegate Adele McClure are confirmed to attend. This meeting will come after the conclusion of the special legislative session commencing September 8, to consider the impact of recent federal spending cuts and federal workforce reductions. In addition to discussing the aftermath of the special session, the legislators will discuss their current priorities for the 2026 General Assembly session, beginning January 14. This will be a sixty-day session, and a biennial budget year.

Women in Business Networking Series

This series of women-focused networking events is open to those who want to expand their network, share knowledge, exchange ideas, and offer advice. The events focus on networking to grow your business opportunties and support others who appreciate what it's like to be a woman in business.

Transportation

Rooftop Recess is located at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and N Branton St.

A parking garage is available at 2311 Wilson Blvd. The rate is $11 for 1-2 hours.

Metered parking is available on Wilson Blvd, Clarendon Blvd, N Adams St, and N Wayne St.

The venue is also metro accessible, located two blocks from the Courthouse Metro Station on the Orange/Silver line.

Arlington is a high-performing, innovation-ready economic hub that keeps landing major corporate wins while actively managing the next phase of its growth. The county has achieved transformational wins in the last decade, including the relocations of Amazon, CoStar, and Mastercard, as well as their continued investment in Arlington. These projects have reshaped demand, talent concentration, and placemaking in their commercial corridors.

At the same time, Arlington is navigating a commercial market shift: office vacancy is elevated compared with historical norms, creating both a near-term challenge and a long-term opportunity for reinvention.

County leaders have responded with innovative policy tools, most notably an adaptive reuse initiative and zoning updates that streamline conversions of older office stock into mixed-use, residential, lodging, and creative workspaces. Those policies are designed to streamline developments, strengthen Arlington’s economic competitiveness, and address new uses that keep Arlington’s commercial corridors vibrant.

This panel will convene the heads of Arlington’s major commercial districts, including Ballston, National Landing and Rosslyn Business Improvement Districts, to discuss the State of Economic Development in Arlington – how these major economic development wins have shaped their commercial corridors, what’s at stake for landlords and tenants, what’s the future for retail and restaurants, and how adaptive reuse and public-private partnerships can convert vacancy into community value.
