Part of our free MoCA on the Move at Met Park programming happening this summer and fall, this Happy Hour event spotlights the work of artist, Zhenya Parish.

Interactive Painting! Join the artist and be part of her practice of abstract expressionist painting. Using a multi canvas approach, three panels will be on display for your viewership and contributions. Zhenya will add the first touches to the canvases, then you will be invited to make your own flourishes, with everyone adding as we go. In this way, the paintings will be created through an interactive process, and together we can practice the "Art of Letting Go!"

This is a day to celebrate the memorial that honors the service and journey of women in the military. It is a day to celebrate the memorial that embodies the SERVICE, SACRIFICE, and SPIRIT of every woman who has answered the call to serve.

We welcome all military women and supporters of t?he Memorial to join us on October 15th, 1-4:30pm, for our 26th Anniversary Celebration Open House. In addition to an opportunity to visit the Memorial, meet up with fellow military sisters and supporters, and enjoy some light refreshments, we will screen "The Hello Girls" documentary. As you may know, there are efforts in progress to ensure the Hello Girls are awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for answering the call to serve our nation during WWI.

On Wednesday, October 18 from 9:00-10:30 a.m., the Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee will hold its Annual Work Session to draft the Chamber’s Public Policy Positions for 2024. This meeting will cover both the General Assembly and Local Government positions. For reference, please see the Chamber’s 2023 Policy Positions.

This meeting will be held in person at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce (2009 14th Street N, Suite 100). Participation in this Committee work session is strictly for private sector members of the Chamber.

Join artists Andrew Barco and Elliot Doughtie for conversations about their solo exhibitions currently on view at MoCA Arlington.

Andrew Barco will discuss his solo project Understory, which incorporates sculpture, projection, and hand-drawn texts to tell the fictional story of a Chicago theater group creating a live-performance version of The Cave (2019), a real-life documentary about a subterranean hospital during the Syrian civil war. Elliot Doughtie will talk about his installation Tomato, which transforms industrial materials into metaphors for the human body and the experience of inhabiting one.

Andrew Barco: Understory and Elliot Doughtie: Tomato take place as part of MoCA Arlington’s SOLOS 23-24, a series of solo exhibitions by artists based in the Mid-Atlantic taking place at the Museum throughout 2023 and 2024. The exhibitions were selected from an open call by a jury that included artist Nekisha Durrett, Betsy Johnson, assistant curator, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and Jova Lynne, director, Temple Contemporary, Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University.
