Transit service is an important component of helping workforce return to their office, and our regional transit network has had to grapple with passenger concerns after the pandemic shutdown in 2020, and the Metrorail service reductions following the derailment in October 2021. On Wednesday, March 2 at 9:00-10:00 a.m., the Chamber’s Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee will welcome Greg Potts, Virginia Government Relations Officer for WMATA to discuss Metro service and safety and to take members’ questions.

The Arlington Bunny Hop is a fun, family oriented charity 5K race and fun run/walk that raises money for local charities hosted by Clarendon United Methodist Church. This year Clarendon United Methodist Church has named Bridges to Independence, as the beneficiary for 2022.

Bridges to Independence (founded in 1985) is a local leader in housing and support services for families experiencing homelessness. Their mission is to “lead individuals and families out of homelessness into stable, independent futures.” Bridges’ programs include shelters, housing, workforce development, financial empowerment, and a very strong youth development program. In 1021, Bridges to Independence merged with the “Bonder & Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation” (BAJCDC) which means their outreach will extend to the historically black South Arlington community of Green Valley.

This year we will have a live road race in the Ashton Heights and Lyon Park neighborhoods like 2018 and 2019 and like our sister race, the Arlington Turkey Trot. Registration is OPEN. The course is shown HERE. We will have a virtual element as well.
