The Chamber's Women in Business Master Class series offers an important educational opportunity to female business owners and professionals. These events are open to Chamber members and prospective members.

THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: How to Preserve Yourself While Building Your Career, presented by Rachel Boehm of Rachel Boehm Coaching & Consulting.

For all professionals, but especially professional women, sacrificing our own wellbeing to support everyone and everything else has become so common it seems normal, even required. This is costing us mentally, physically, emotionally, and even financially. When we don’t invest in our well-being, we increase our risks for burnout, anxiety, depression, musculoskeletal pain, metabolic disease, decreased critical thinking, slower response times, poor sleep…the list goes on. And when any of these occur our work performance suffers, costing us time and money.

Research is clear that women who consistently invest a few minutes a day in their self-care improve their well-being and performance. Even women who began consistently using a basic skincare routine reported improved quality of life.

Our next Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 7 from 9:00-10:00am on the Zoom platform. This will be a two-part meeting. During the first half of the meeting, we will welcome Russell Danao-Schroeder, Senior Housing Planner at the Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development, to discuss the Affordable Housing Master Plan. The second half of the meeting will be a work session to draft the Chamber’s Response to Arlington County’s Policy Priority Requests for the 2023 Session of the Virginia General Assembly. As was the case with our Policy Position Work Session, this work session will be open to private-sector members only. However, all members may attend the first part of the meeting.

Please note that the meeting in its entirety will be hosted on Zoom.

We welcome members to contribute their thoughts on the County’s Policy Priority Requests, even if they cannot attend the meeting. If you have comments or concerns you wish to be heard, please email John Musso, Government Affairs Manager, at advocacy@arlingtonchamber.org by Tuesday, December 6.

Keynote Address: Randy Clarke, General Manager and CEO of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Randy Clarke joined the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) as General Manager and CEO in July 2022. Attendees will hear about his plans for WMATA, what a return to service will look like, and how the business community can support those plans.

Extended Gallery Hours

Join artist Cecilia Kim and curator Betsy Johnson in-person at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington for a conversation about Far From Home, Kim’s two-channel video installation currently on view at the Museum.

This program takes place as part of Assembly 2022: Time & Attention,

Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington’s national biennial, on view through December 18, 2022. In conjunction with the program, MoCA Arlington’s galleries will stay open until 8pm on Friday,

December 9.

Cecilia Kim is a video artist and educator living and working in the Washington, DC metro area. Born in South Korea, Kim has also lived in Australia, England, and Singapore. Kim was awarded the 19th annual Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions including Hamiltonian Gallery (Washington, DC), The Immigrant Artist Biennial (New York, NY & virtual), 6th Louisiana Biennial (Ruston, LA), 0 GALLERY (Seoul, Korea), Target Gallery (Alexandria, VA), The Anderson Gallery (Richmond, VA), Hume Gallery (Chicago, IL); and film festivals including YouFilmFest at the Kennedy Center and NoFlash Video Show.

Kim has been a resident artist at Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency, Corsicana Artist and Writer Residency, VisArts Bresler Residency, and Busan International OpenArts Residence in Korea. She is currently a 2021-23 Hamiltonian Artists Fellow. Kim received her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Betsy Johnson is an assistant curator responsible for the photography collection at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, where she has curated Tony Lewis: Anthology 2014–2016 (2018); The Evidence Room (2019); Feel the Sun in Your Mouth: Recent Acquisitions (2019), Ai Weiwei: Trace, Skirball Cultural Center, Los Angeles (2021); Toyin Ojih Odutola: A Countervailing Theory (2021); One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama in the Hirshhorn Collection (2022); Rirkrit Tiravanija: (who’s afraid of red, yellow, and green), Wrightwood 659, Chicago (2022), and A Window Suddenly Opens: Contemporary Photography in China (2022). She earned her bachelor’s degree in integrative arts (1998) and her master’s degree in art history (2004) from the Pennsylvania State University and is ABD in the department of art history and archaeology at the University of Maryland. She has curated exhibitions across the region for institutions such as the Korean Cultural Center, Maryland Institute College of Art, Washington Project for the Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington, McLean Project for the Arts, and the University of Maryland Art Gallery.
