Do you have a passion for software engineering but need experience to get started in an exciting new career? Are you tired of seeing entry-level jobs requiring two years of experience? The Arlington Talent Pilot Program helps aspiring software engineers gain the essential skills and experience they need to grow their careers by connecting them with Exelaration for a temporary, full-time paid role.

In partnership with Arlington Economic Development, Exelaration invites Arlington, Virginia, residents to apply for this experiential learning opportunity focused on preparing you for the next step in your professional journey.

How the Arlington Talent Pilot Program works:

- Prospective Arlington Talent Pilot Program participants will complete the application prior to the deadline.

- Selected applicants will join the Exelaration team full-time for 12-20 weeks. The next cohort starts in spring 2023.

- Through this program, participants work with Exelaration’s expert tech consultants on real client projects to learn skills in software development, testing, and more.

- Following program completion, participants will be highly equipped to pursue a long-term career in the tech field.

The Chamber's Women in Business Master Class series offers an important educational opportunity to female business owners and professionals. These events are open to Chamber members and prospective members.

THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: Overcoming Negative Self-Talk, presented by Kara Simon, Owner of Loving Heart Holistic Wellness.

We all have an inner dialogue with ourselves that can at times turn negative. This self-talk can limit our ability to believe in ourselves and our abilities, and can diminish our confidence. In this month’s master class, Kara Simon, Owner and Operator of Loving Heart Wellness will be joining us to discuss ways to overcome negative self-talk. Together, we’ll discuss practices like the S.T.O.P. method, the use of practical affirmations, mindfulness, and more.

We are currently accepting topic submissions for our 2023 series!

There are many reasons to become a speaker, including exposure for you and your business. You will be showcasing yourself and your business as a thought leader/content expert. Please join Northeastern University on Tuesday, October 18th, for a timely discussion on leveraging Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI). This symposium will focus on the competitive advantage of AI, which helps drive sharp business practices across government, private industries, and education.

According to Accenture, Responsible AI is the practice of designing, developing, and deploying RAI with good intention to empower employees and businesses, and fairly impact customers and society—allowing companies to engender trust and scale RAI with confidence.

There is a growing emphasis on the responsible use of RAI technology, and how this can be used to address, rather than deepen, bias and fairness in society. Northeastern University is focused on educating its students and community on how to tackle these issues.

Northeastern University has pulled together some of the top RAI industry leaders and university researchers as they explore these issues within a lively panel discussion. These experts will address how companies can effectively leverage RAI through the context of corporate values, selecting fairness metrics, metric usage, bias mitigation, algorithms detecting bias, and managing regulatory change.

Attendees will have an opportunity to network during and after the program.

COVID-19 and over a year of virtual learning continues to have significant impacts on our students, both emotionally and academically. 72% of our students entered Aspire! below reading level this fall. Almost half of these students were two or more grades behind. Our fifth-grade and middle school students face greater challenges as they continue to need foundational academic support to complete grade-level content.

We know recovery is not enough. Aspire! is committed to ensuring that students not only make up for lost learning, but thrive!

We are profoundly grateful to all the friends of Aspire! who have kept our crucial work going during the pandemic, but our work is not done! We know our schools cannot make up for lost learning time alone. With your help, we can continue to provide holistic afterschool and summer support to Arlington families who otherwise cannot afford private tutors or programs and ensure that students most impacted by the opportunity gap have access to the support they need to thrive.

Our goal is to raise $150,000 during this year's event. With your support, we can kick off our ambitious three-year strategic plan and grow in the following ways:

Almost double the number of students we serve (from 80 to 150) in our daily afterschool program.

Prospective members may register to attend up to three (3) Chamber networking (Breakfast Connection, Business After Business, Small Business Roundtable) events in a calendar year as a guest before joining the Chamber. The Chamber reserves the right to deny admittance to the event if a nonmember has already attended three events. Please contact Mike Rosenow at membership@arlingtonchamber.org with any questions or to join the Chamber.

Registrations are non-refundable. While you are unable to apply registrations to future events, you may transfer your registration to another individual.

Join Phoenix Bikes on October 28-30, 2022 for the Arlington Treasure Hunt—the bike ride, scavenger hunt and food tour combo that will lead riders on a delightful adventure around Arlington to discover some of our true community treasures: its locally owned eateries! Whether they cook up sizzling pupusas, dunk the most delicious donuts, or brew the best coffee in town, the local restaurants that keep you fueled all year round are ready to celebrate with you for this year’s Treasure Hunt.

Guided by an online event site, riders will be led on a fun bike ride with stops at a variety of Arlington restaurants. At each stop riders will get the chance to solve fun puzzles, learn little known facts about local shops and taste delicious treats. The ride has been designed to be flexible and social distance friendly so that it can be done alone or with family, over an afternoon or throughout the weekend. It’s all about having fun and celebrating local spots that make Arlington our vibrant hometown!
