First, Leon Vignes from the Department of Community Planning, Housing, and Development will update the committee on the Plan Lee Highway Work, what staff have been doing behind the scenes over the past months, and next steps for this multi-year planning process. Then, Debbie Albert from Department of Technology Services and Gwen Hancock from the Permit Office will update the committee on developments in the Permit Arlington online system for submitting permit applications.

The world may look a little different right now, but one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to ending Alzheimer’s. This year, Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is everywhere — on every sidewalk, track and trail.

Your health and safety are our top priorities. This year’s event won’t be a large in-person gathering — instead, we invite you to walk in small teams of friends and family while others in your community do the same. Because we are all still walking and fundraising for the same thing: a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

How to Participate

1. Register for your local Walk.

2. Start fundraising and spread the word.

We'll provide tips and coaching every step of the way, including easy ways to raise funds online.

3. Join us on Walk day.

Take part in an interactive online experience, then walk in your community.

The Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial Race was born from an idea to start a road race after two Arlington County Police Officers had returned from a similar road race in Buffalo, New York. The first Arlington 9/11 Race was held on September 7, 2002, with 2600 runners, and raised approximately $40,000.

Since its inception, the Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial Race has had over 40,000 runners cross its finish line and has raised over $800,000 for 9/11-related charities. Our goal is to donate over 1 million dollars and to host the 20th Anniversary 9/11 Race on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

This year the Arlington Police, Fire & Sheriff 9/11 Memorial Race will donate all funds to the Pentagon Memorial Fund (PMF). The PMF pledges to never forget those who have served our country.

Arlington County has taken a number of actions to address the pandemic, and the Chamber continues to ask for additional actions to be taken and for other actions to be repealed or revised. At its meeting on Wednesday, September 16, from 9:00-10:00 a.m., the Government Affairs and Economic Development Committee will review COVID-19 responses to date, and will receive a report out from the Reopening Subcommittee, which has been having focused discussions on policy proposals to recommend to the Arlington County.
