With Northern Virginia having entered Phase Three of reopening, there are many questions regarding best practices to reopen businesses safely. Arlington Transport ation Partners (ATP) will show you what resources are available to you in order to maintain a clean and safe environment.

ATP will discuss the impact of COVID-19 on transportation, and the flexible workplace policies, benefits, and services that employers can offer to help employees commute confidently back to the workplace. ATP is a program of Arlington County Commuter Services (ACCS) within the Department of Environmental services. ATP provides complimentary transportation consulting to local businesses to encourage the use of transit, carpooling, bicycling, walking, teleworking, and other alternatives to driving alone.

Air travel was one of the hardest-hit industries from the coronavirus lockdowns as business and leisure travelers stayed home. The more than 90% decline in travel rippled to other industries, through fewer hotel stays, meals out, and other commerce by travelers. Tracy Montross, Regional Director of Government Affairs for American Airlines, and Michael Cooper, State & Local Government Affairs Manager for Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will discuss the outlook for airlines and airports, and how they are working to support hospitality and the broader economy.

Two hour metered parking is available in front of the Chamber office. There is also two hour metered parking in the ground lot at 14th Street & Courthouse Road, across from the Arlington Courthouse. An underground parking lot is available at 14th & Taft Street with rates of $4 (1 hour), $6 (2 hours), and $8 (until closing). Takis Karantonis joined the County Board in July after winning a special election to fill out the term for the seat left vacant by Erik Gutshall’s tragic passing. Members will have the opportunity to get to know him and hear about his experience joining the Board and his thoughts on County policy. Takis also looks forward to hearing members’ questions and feedback on issues facing Arlington.

Momentum is building for AMAZON’S Arlington headquaarters! Join Clark Construction Group to learn about subcontracting opportunities on Metropolitan Park, Phases 6, 7, & 8.

The Metropolitan Park, Phases 6, 7 and 8 project is located in Arlington, VA, just blocks from Reagan National Airport and less than a mile from the Pentagon. The project encompasses nearly 2.1 million square feet of offi ce space housed in two, 22-story offi ce buildings, as well as a 2,000-space, below-grade parking structure. The new urban campus will feature 65,000 square feet of street-level retail and 200,000 square feet of interior amenity spaces named the Center of Energy. Metropolitan Park, Phases 6, 7, & 8 also will include new and renovated public spaces, and more than a half-mile of protected bike lanes. The project is designed to achieve LEED® Platinum certifi cation.

Project completion in scheduled for Spring 2023.

The Chamber's monthly Small Business Roundtable offers an important educational opportunity to smaller businesses. The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested. The topic of discussion changes monthly, allowing attendees to learn how to enhance their business and increase their success in a different way each month!

THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: "Communicate Effectively for a Positive Impact on Successful Teamwork and Leadership Skills” presented by Ann Rosser, Principal and Founder of Finding Resolution Consulting.

Ann Rosser will present on how effective communication can have a positive impact on your bottom line. During the presentation, Ann will cover how to communicate effectively, motivate employees so they’re engaged and productive, and how to deal with conflict. Her approach is led by insights into behavior, which can help you be more self-aware and understand how you are perceived by others. This event is free for members and $20 for non-members.

2020 Walk to End Alzheimer's in Northern Virginia 8/27/2020

The world may look a little different right now, but one thing hasn’t changed: our commitment to ending Alzheimer’s. This year, Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is everywhere — on every sidewalk, track and trail.

Your health and safety are our top priorities. This year’s event won’t be a large in-person gathering — instead, we invite you to walk in small teams of friends and family while others in your community do the same. Because we are all still walking and fundraising for the same thing: a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

How to Participate

1. Register for your local Walk.

2. Start fundraising and spread the word.

We'll provide tips and coaching every step of the way, including easy ways to raise funds online.

3. Join us on Walk day.

Take part in an interactive online experience, then walk in your community.

This year, Bridges to Independence (Bridges) pivoted from our annual Lemonade Stand to host this virtual art auction! If you did not know, every summer Bridges hosts a youth-operated Lemonade Stand that makes an appearance at various sites across Arlington. The Bridges' youth learn good decision-making, a strong work ethic, and salesmanship through promotion, prep/cleanup, and management of their own lemonade stand. Unfortunately, Bridges was not able to hold the Lemonade Stand this year due to COVID-19. However, here at Bridges, we like to think that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, which is how our "Lemonade with a Twist" initiative came to light! Lemonade with a Twist is a three-prong alternative to the usual Lemonade Stand. For the first prong, Bridges partnered with Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe in Arlington, where a portion of proceeds from sold lemon products went to supporting the Youth Program. For the second prong, the community was invited to host social-distance friendly Lemonade Stands in their neighborhood, following CDC guidelines. As for the third prong, Bridges' youth spent the summer creating original art and learning the value of good decision making and financial empowerment through online seminars. The art that they created will be auctioned off here! Our Lemonade with a Twist initiative has had a successful run this summer, and we are excited for its big closing; this virtual art auction. Normally, about 25 youth participate each summer in the Lemonade Stand. This summer, our engagement doubled! Our youth were so excited to create art pieces to share with the community, and now the big unveiling moment has arrived! We invite you to take a look at all their paintings and decorate your walls for a cause! Bid on and purchase unique art creations now! If you see something you like, hurry and bid on it! The art auction will only be here from August 21-31, 2020. Funds raised from this auction will go to opening Bridges youth's first savings accounts at Arlington Community Federal Credit Union and future youth programming. Some youth have already decided how they will spend their money. Make sure to read the descriptions next to the paintings to learn what the youth plan on doing with their portion of the money and why they love Bridges!
