The Chamber championed that Arlington take a flexible approach to expanding outdoor dining based on conversation at committee meeting last month. In response, Arlington County has approved a program for Temporary Outdoor Seating Areas (or TOSAs), a no-fee administrative approval that allows restaurants to expand outdoor seating. On Wednesday, June 3, from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Arlington County staff will join the Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee to describe how TOSAs work and to take our questions on these, and other tools to help businesses reopen.

AWLA's annual Walk for the Animals is our biggest fundraiser of the year! In 2019 we raised more than $90,000 and we are pushing the bar even higher in 2020 with a goal of $100,000! This year's Walk will be a fun-filled evening with entertainment for children and adults alike! We'll kick things off with a short stroll around the neighborhood and then return to AWLA for food, drinks, music, and more! Be the first to purchase an AWLA blanket to stake out your spot and make a picnic with delicious food truck fare and drinks from our beer and (NEW THIS YEAR!) wine garden. Award-winning entertainer The Great Zucchini will wow the kids with his show, and then cover band Uncle Jesse will take the stage to perform familiar hits from 90s and 2000s. This business-themed candidate forum features a moderated discussion of topics important to the Arlington business community with the candidates running for the Arlington County Board. The event will provide candidates the opportunity to engage with local business leaders and to address the key issues affecting the business community.

This decision was necessary to protect participants, volunteers and our community. Both of our beneficiaries, Bridges and OAR, have noted increased needs for their services. The Chamber's monthly Small Business Roundtable offers an important educational opportunity to smaller businesses. The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested. THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: "How to deal with the uncertainty in the business world, and cope with worry and anxiety" presented by Dr. Jelena Kecmanovic, Ph.D. (“Dr. K.”) is the founder and director of the Arlington/DC Behavior Therapy Institute (ABTI).

The coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing uncertainty can affect emotional wellbeing and psychological health in many ways. Dr. K. will discuss science-based, specific, and creative strategies for dealing with uncertainty, reducing worry, and coping with anxiety and other negative emotions. This will also be an opportunity to practice the most effective stress management methods, strengthen psychological resilience, and get answers to your own mental health dilemmas and questions.
