We are looking forward to having you at the next meeting of the Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee on Wednesday, February 5 at 9:00-10:30 a.m. We will welcome Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz, who will be discussing local government management, in follow up to our policy conversation with County Board Chair Libby Garvey at our last meeting. He will also take our questions on issues of business significance facing local government.

Promote your business before the workday even begins. The format of the Breakfast Connection gives attendees a chance to bring their business to the table, literally. This event focuses on roundtable power networking and provides attendees the chance to exchange business cards, develop new prospects and share a 60 second pitch with each table. Bring plenty of business cards- you'll need them! This Breakfast Connection is hosted in partnership with the Northern Virginia Hispanic American Chamber. Registration includes a full buffet breakfast with coffee, tea and juice.

National Chamber Ensemble presents a very special Valentine's Concert on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 7:30 PM at the Gunston Arts Center(Theater One). Clarinet star Julian Milkis, the only student and protege of jazz great Benny Goodman joins NCE to perform a concert in tribute to his teacher and mentor. The concert is proudly presented with the Pozez JCC of Northern Va.

Clarinetist Julian Milkis performs a Valentine Concert of some of the most enticing works for clarinet in tribute to Benny Goodman as well some of his mentors most popular jazz and classical compositions such as Glory of Love, Benny's Bugle, Paganini Caprice and more plus Mozart's exquisite Clarinet Concerto which Benny Goodman famously recorded. The Concerto will be presented in an intimate quartet setting fitting the special occasion.

Mr. Milkis will be joined by pianist Carlos Cesar Rodriguez, violinist Leo Sushansky, double bassist Ephriam Wolfolk Jr and drummer Leland Nakamura for an enticing night of music making perfect to share with your Valentine!

The performance will be followed by an hors d'oeuvres reception with the artists.

Julian Milkis clarinet

With a unique, branded sound, a virtuosic technical ease and a musical imagination that has captivated critics and audiences alike around the world, Julian Milkis carries the rare honor of being the only student of the clarinet legend Benny Goodman. Mr. Milkis’ unique interpretations and artistry have earned him an international stature of a dazzling soloist, chamber musician, recitalist and jazz clarinetist, with performances at principal venues of virtually every continent, including the Far East, Europe and the Americas.

His numerous solo appearances include The Toronto Symphony, CBC Vancouver Orchestra, State Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Gosorkestr), St. Petersburg Philharmonic, L’Orchestre Nationale de Lyon, L’Orchestre Colonne, L’Orchestre Symphonique Francaise, KBS Symphony of Seoul, Korea are only some of the symphony orchestras that featured Julian Milkis as their soloist on some of the world’s most prominent stages in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Salle Pleyel, Salle Gaveau in Paris, Great Halls of the Moscow Conservatory and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic of Russia, Roy Thomson Hall and Weston Recital Hall in Toronto, National Concert Hall in Taipei, and others.

Aside from being an established solo artist, Julian Milkis is a sought-after chamber musician, having collaborated with some of today’s leading artists including the Borodin String Quartet and the St. Lawrence String Quartet, to name a few. A multifaceted musician, Mr. Milkis is one of the leading voices for his instrument in the field of Jazz. His treasured collaboration with the jazz pianist Dick Hyman – Benny Goodman’s old bandmate, who has transcribed a number of King of Swing’s classics for Julian, and recently dedicated Ragtime Concerto for him – provides a rare and genuine insight into the golden era of Jazz.

With an extensive amount of music written for him, including a number of concertos, Julian Milkis has had the honor of working with iconic music personalities, such as Giya Kancheli and Olivier Messiaen. Mr. Milkis has recorded for Russian Melodiya, Warner Classics’ Lontano, the French Suoni e Colori, Sony’s Russian division CEAUX, Russian Seasons, and Brilliant Classics.

Julian Milkis performs exclusively on Yamaha Clarinets and Rico reeds. His busy performing schedule during the next few seasons will feature concert tours with the Siberian Virtuosi in the United States, South American tour with Sinfonia Toronto. Recently, Julian Milkis became the recipient of the very prestigious title of the Knight of Honour of Maltese Order, St. John Grand Priory.

About National Chamber Ensemble

The National Chamber Ensemble was founded in 2007 to provide opportunities to appreciate and enjoy the art of chamber music, bringing together performers, audiences, and composers. Through its performances and commissions of original musical works, NCE presents a full range of chamber music repertoire from the classics to the contemporary. Its internationally-acclaimed musicians provide outstanding performances of chamber music in an intimate setting. The Ensemble has presented several world premieres and hosted internationally renowned guest artists, and has collaborated with Smithsonian Institution, Phillips Collection, the Kennedy Center, the embassies of Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, Argentina, Austria and Mexico as well as with local arts organizations: Ballet Nova, Choralis, Russian Chamber Art Society, and Bowen McCauley Dance. The Chamber's monthly Small Business Roundtable offers an important educational opportunity to smaller businesses. The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested. The topic of discussion changes monthly, allowing attendees to learn how to enhance their business and increase their success in a different way each month!

"Writing Marketing Content: Creating Digital Marketing Campaigns" presented by Holly Harper, Strategic Management Consultant, Blue Bike Communications.

You know you need a website, should be on social media, and probably need to email leads, but now what do you write about? What do you post? How often? How much effort should you put in? In this workshop, we will learn the basics of how to write a marketing message that connects you with your target audience and then we'll brainstorm different strategies to turn that message into multiple forms to use in your marketing campaigns. You'll walk away with a handful of specific ideas for your content, and a way to figure out if the effort to produce it will pay off for you.

WhyHotel Pentagon Columbia Pike is approximately 3 miles from the Pentagon Metro Station (Blue and Yellow Lines) and 2 miles from the Ballston-Marymount U Metro Station (Orange and Silver Lines). Arriving by Rideshare (Uber/Lyft):
1. Have your driver drop you off at 950 S. George Mason Drive, look for the door marked Centro.
2. Inside the front door you will find a directory with a call button which connects you directly with our Sky Lobby for access into the building.
3. Once inside the building, follow the WhyHotel signage to the elevators.
4. Once inside the elevators, press 4 and proceed to the event area to the left off the elevators.

If you require parking:

1. Access the public parking garage from either South George Mason Drive or from Columbia Pike.
2. Proceed to level G1 (Harris Teeter Parking)
