We will welcome the four candidates running in contested primaries for General Assembly (all Democrats): In the 31st Senate District, incumbent Sen. Barbara Favola and challenger Nicole Merlene; and in the 49th Delegate District, incumbent Del. Alfonso Lopez and challenger JD Spain.

Each candidate will give brief remarks and will take questions from committee members. The candidates will join us one at a time, in sequence; there will be no direct back-and-forth or debate amongst the candidates. Due to the logistics of welcoming four speakers in turn, this meeting will run until 10:30 a.m.

As always, participation in the Chamber’s Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee is open to all Chamber members, and is exclusive to Chamber members. For this meeting, we ask that you please register to ensure adequate seating.

Two hour metered parking is available in front of the Chamber office. There is also two hour metered parking in the ground lot at 14th Street & Courthouse Road, across from the Arlington Courthouse. An underground parking lot is available at 14th & Taft Street with rates of $4 (1 hour), $6 (2 hours), and $8 (until closing). ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington County is taking a proactive community approach to reducing alcohol-related harm and increasing safety through the Arlington Restaurant Initiative (ARI). ARI is voluntary accreditation program designed provide effective standards to establishments that serve alcohol, streamline processes within the County Government and develop working relationships vital to public safety. Patrons, restaurant staff, and those interested in maintaining Arlington County as a safe destination for entertainment are encouraged to attend a community conversation on nightlife safety. The event will feature panelists from various Arlington County departments speaking about how they collaborated to build trusting relationships with restaurant staff and improve safety.

Data analytics is one of the fastest growing and highest priority domains in the modern enterprise. The marketplace continues to be pushed forward by new tools and technologies, as well as increased adoption by organizations small and large. Presented by the Community Action Committee, our Data Analytics: Communicating What Counts forum will focus on providing tips, tools and insights into two specific aspects of the topic: (1) how to design and harness an organization’s operating, donor and other data to make it as useful as possible to tell its story or cultivate donors and (2) how to communicate and leverage the information that is derived from the data. Our four panelists will include representatives from both the for profit and nonprofit fields that will allow every attendee the chance to take away valuable knowledge from both industry perspectives to apply within their own organization.

The Chamber's monthly Small Business Roundtable offers an important educational opportunity to smaller businesses. The roundtable is free to members but space is limited and registration is requested. The topic of discussion changes monthly, allowing attendees to learn how to enhance their business and increase their success in a different way each month!

The topic covered is relevant to nonprofit organizations and anyone interested in investing with a purpose beyond the narrow focus of financial returns.
