Originally created for Capital Fringe Festival 2018 and 'back by popular demand' at Theatre on the Run in Arlington, Beauty and the Beat is sure to kick up recollections of neighbors, roommates, landlords or lane-changing experiences of vying for a parking space. A leftover interaction haunts you. Oddly, you recall the incident, though it was a mere blip, tiny gasp. The beauty of the moment has a life of its own like a disaster waiting to happen should a tree fall over! Physical and fun, Beauty and the Beat is about presumptions that go way off course. You wonder about the guy who lives next door. Inspired by Tom Waits song “What’s He Building in There,” scenarios emerge of nosy neighbors jumping to big conclusions.

We are looking forward to having you at the next meeting of the Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee on Wednesday, February 6 at 9:00 a.m. We will welcome Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz, who will be discussing local government management, in follow up to our policy conversation with County Board Chair Christian Dorsey at our last meeting. He will also take our questions on issues of business significance facing local government.

Two hour metered parking is available in front of the Chamber office. There is also two hour metered parking in the ground lot at 14th Street & Courthouse Road, across from the Arlington Courthouse. An underground parking lot is available at 14th & Taft Street with rates of $4 (1 hour), $6 (2 hours), and $8 (until closing). The office is located 0.2 miles from the Courthouse Metro Station (Orange & Silver lines).

We will welcome Margaret Rhodes and colleagues from the Arlington County Department of Community Planning, Housing, and Development. They will brief us on their work to update the process for Special GLUP studies. Last month, the Chamber expressed concerns about an earlier update proposal, and the County staff are now working to revise what they are proposing. The update is still a work in progress; this meeting is an opportunity for the County team to hear and to incorporate feedback from you, Chamber members

Promote your business before the workday even begins. The format of the Breakfast Connection gives attendees a chance to bring their business to the table, literally. This event focuses on roundtable power networking and provides attendees the chance to exchange business cards, develop new prospects and share a 60 second pitch with each table. Bring plenty of business cards- you'll need them! This Breakfast Connection is hosted in Partnership with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Registration includes a full buffet breakfast with coffee, tea and juice.
