Event Description: The Arlington Historical Society hosts Rob Farr for his talk “Hollywood on the Potomac.” Arlington has been a location for Hollywood-produced movies for almost a century. Film historian Rob Farr will share and discuss his collection of scenes shot in Arlington beginning with the disastrous Wright Brothers’ flight in Fort Myer in 1908 that resulted in a fatality. From there the audience will be shown Arlington clips ranging from D.W. Griffith’s “America” (1924) to the “West Wing” assassination scene shot in Rosslyn’s Freedom Plaza in 2000. Rob Farr teaches film history at George Mason University when he’s not working at his “day job” as executive producer for Arlington TV, Arlington County’s government access cable channel.


Directions:
The hour-long program will begin at 7:00pm at Marymount University (2807 N. Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22207; the talk will be held on the main floor of the university’s library, Rowley G127). Note that this is a seasonal change-of-venue from Arlington Central Library; AHS programming will return to the library in May 2015. The program is free and open to the public. Park is available on campus. Marymount University provides a shuttle bus from the Ballston-MU Metro station, and Metro bus routes 23A and 23T drop off at the campus.
