Event Description: Capital Caring Hospice presents…. Arlington County Senior Resource Group The Arlington County Senior Resource Group is an open to the public monthly forum where individuals can learn about the many resources available in the community for senior citizens and their loved ones. A wide variety of topics by guest speakers will be covered, ranging from advanced planning, assisted living options, nutrition and healthy eating, dementia/Alzheimer’s support, and hospice to name a few. Each 2-hour session will address one to two topics with time for questions at the end of each session. This group will meet at the Arlington Central Library one Saturday a month at from 1pm to 3pm. Refreshments will be served! Upcoming Presentations: Saturday March 15th 1pm to 3pm “The Care Continuum: Hospice, Home Care, Assisted Living” - Come and learn about how Home Care, Assisted Living and Hospice can help addresses the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, caregiving, nutritional, comfort, safety and other needs for individuals requiring various levels of specialized care. Saturday April 12th 1pm to 3pm “Advanced Planning/Geriatric Care Management” – First Hour: Having a written advanced directive in place that outlines your wishes for future medical care is highly recommended at any age. But it is especially important that those with advanced age or illness. During this session, you will learn exactly what an advanced directive is and how it works, along with tools and resources to help you get started! Second Hour: Geriatric Care Management is the process of planning and coordinating care of the elderly and others with physical and/or mental impairments to meet their long term care needs, improve their quality of life, and maintain their independence for as long as possible. During this session, you will learn more about the wide variety of services that Geriatric Care Managers provide and find resources and information on how to obtain these invaluable services. Saturday May 17th 1pm to 3pm “Healthy Eating for Seniors / Day Programs and Community Activities for Seniors “ First Hour: Good nutrition keeps muscles, bones and organs like the brain strong and healthy for the long haul. Come and learn and the specialized nutritional needs for older adults and how a balanced, nutrient dense diet can help reduce the risk of certain diseases and provide more energy. Learn which foods may be especially important to eat (and omit) in your later years. Second Hour: Arlington County offers a wide variety of programs and activities for older adults. Did you know that the County has 6 Senior Centers with activities including exercise and sports, social events, classes and guest speakers, discussion groups and clubs, games, crafts, music and more? Come learn more about what the Senior Centers throughout Arlington have to offer!
