Event Description: ARLINGTON, Virginia (October 14, 2013) – Jane Franklin Dance announces the performance of See on January 11 at 7pm at Theatre on the Run, 3700 S. Four Mile Run Drive, Arlington, Virginia. See is a duet performance by Jane Franklin and percussionist Tom Teasley, featuring live performance and experimental video. In a creative new offering, Teasley performs live to a diverse repertoire of films, including the performance/installation of German Dadaist masters Hans Richter’s “Rhythmus 21” and Viking Eggeling’s “Symphonie Diagonal,” as well as others. Franklin merges the human body and media, sometimes layering live performance with video backdrop, and often featuring local landscapes such as Holmes Run Greenway in Alexandria or Four Mile Run Footbridge, selected for PHOTO/VIDEO 2013 Mid-Atlantic Exhibition at Artisphere. Meet and greet to follow introducing the Trickster, scheduled to premiere the following weekend. Tom Teasley is a percussionist, composer, sound designer and educator working in forms from modern percussion to ancient traditions. A 2010 Helen Hayes Theater Award recipient for outstanding sound design, Teasley frequently tours throughout the world and collaborates with musicians from Saudi Arabia, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. Teasley earned the 2006 Artist-of-the-Year Award from Young Audiences of Virginia for his creative and educational presentations. Franklin is a recipient of the American Association of University Women Elizabeth Campbell Award for the Advancement of the Arts in Arlington and her video work Four Mile Run Footbridge was selected for PHOTO/VIDEO 13: Juried Mid-Atlantic Exhibition at Artisphere. Jane Franklin Dance has been recognized by Virginia’s Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and the company tours for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Paul Mellon Arts in Education Program and the Virginia Commission’s Tour Directory.
