Event Description: The afternoon concert will offer segments from a work in progress, Blue Moon, a new collaboration by Jane Franklin and percussionist Tom Teasley. Beyond the Painted Desert, as the land forms wide, empty valleys interspersed by low, scrub-covered mesas, hundreds of petroglyphs are etched into weathered surfaces of sandstone. The color and climate of the landscape inspires a fascinating exploration of the Coyote archetype of the American Southwest as a reflection of history and transformation. The program includes recent work Green Fits Menthol, suggestive of the way color is associated with senses, and Fire & Ice that captures the emotional temperature of hot & cold. Tickets $20

Directions to the Athenaeum We are located in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria. A free trolley travels every 20 minutes from the King Street Metro Station towards the Potomac River waterfront from 11:30 am until 10 pm, and stops at the corner of King and Lee Streets. The Athenaeum is located one block south, at the corner of South Lee and Prince Streets. If you arrive by Water Taxi, we are three blocks from the Alexandria Pier. Limited street parking is available. Parking lots are located at Market Square at the corner of King and South Fairfax Streets and at the corner of Duke and South Union Streets.
