Event Description: Bowen McCauley Dance, recognized by The Washington Post as “DC’s premier contemporary dance company”, is known for its company of classically trained dancers who perform a sweeping range of choreography. In keeping with her commitment to collaborations and live music accompaniment, artistic director Lucy Bowen McCauley brings together artistic partners Alan Paul of Shakespeare Theatre, scenic designer Tony Cisek, lighting designer Martha Mountain, the Witkowski Piano Duo, Italian virtuoso saxophonist Gaetano DiBacco, and a host of accomplished musicians. BMD celebrates the centennial anniversary of Le Sacre du Printemps (Rite of Spring) with an interpretation The Washington Post called BMD’s “strongest work to date…muscular, theatrically arresting.” The company also performs to newly commissioned scores by Larry Alan Smith—Before the Fall, a ballet based on the story of Humpty Dumpty, danced by the Maryland Youth Ballet—and Patrick Soluri— Fire and Air, a theatrical reimagining of Shakespeare’s Anthony and Cleopatra, featuring a performance by Lucy Bowen McCauley.
