Event Description:
Have you ever wondered about the role of the conductor? Arlington Philharmonic Conductor, A. Scott Wood, will give you an inside look, explaining the history, psychology and purpose of the conductor. He will use film footage, recordings, and demonstrations with his “orchestra musicians” (you!) to show you how things work and what can go wrong. You’ll learn why the role developed and how it has changed over time. You’ll understand how the conductor translates between sight and sound. And you’ll be able to separate fact from fiction—and find that there is still some mystery at the core. This program is jointly sponsored by the Arlington Learning in Retirement Institute and the Arlington County Public Library. ALRI is also affiliated with George Mason University and the Arlington Public Schools Adult Education Program.
