The Chamber's free monthly Small Business Roundtable is an important educational and networking opportunity for small businesses. This event provides expert speakers on topics to help you grow your business, such as digital marketing and business development, and also gives you the opportunity to make connections and grow your professional network. The forum is applicable to a variety of businesses and employee levels, from front-line customer service to owners.
This Month's Topic: Hiring for Potential vs. Experience: Striking the Right Balance
Description
When hiring new talent, businesses face the dilemma of prioritizing experience or potential. Experienced candidates bring proven expertise, faster onboarding, and industry knowledge but may resist innovation and command higher salaries. Conversely, candidates with potential offer adaptability, fresh ideas, and long-term growth opportunities but require more training and managerial effort. Both approaches have distinct advantages and challenges, making the choice dependent on the role and organizational needs. Join Katy Murray, Human Resources Manager & Executive Administrator at Army Navy Country Club, to learn about how the ideal strategy often lies in balancing the two, leveraging experience for technical or senior roles while nurturing potential for entry-level or growth-oriented positions. A focus on cultural fit, robust onboarding, and mentorship programs can create dynamic, innovative teams that align with your company’s values and goals.
