Companies that have previously attended more than three Chamber events and previous members who have dropped their Chamber memberships are not eligible to attend as a guest. The Chamber reserves the right to deny admittance to the event if a nonmember has already attended three events. Workshop: Intro to Oils (Ages 18+)

Students will gain an introduction to oil paints in this three-session workshop with local artist, Jonathan Ege. Students will learn about paint mediums, setting up a palette, basic color mixing, and composition with a focus on oils. Students will first complete a series of color-mixing exercises to learn about value, temperature, and intensity. After this, students will have the opportunity to work from a still life to learn how to complete an oil painting from start to finish. Students will leave with an oil painting kit to take home and the skills and resources to continue oil painting! No prior painting or oil paint experience necessary.

Join us for a fun and hands-on floral arrangement workshop! This program kicks off with a floral arrangement demo, showing you creative ways to mix and match blooms. Then participants have a chance to play and experiment with a variety of flowers, colors, and textures. What is a Flower Potluck? Participants will bring flowers (foraged or store-bought, a mix or all the same) + a vessel (something you want to arrange your flowers in). We’ll start by choosing flowers from our collective potluck, so make sure to arrive on time to pick from the full selection and dive into the creative process with us!

Join curator of exhibitions Blair Murphy and artists Tom Bunnell, Asha Elana Casey, Claudia “Aziza” Gibson-Hunter, Matthew Mann, Maggie Michael, and Marisa Rasum for a conversation about painting as a material practice.

How do artists use painting to reconcile and transcend their own experiences of our overburdened image landscape–both the physical world and the endless scroll of news images, selfies, digitally-created content and, increasingly, AI-generated materials that fill our various screens? How can painting, which blurs the boundary between object and image, interrupt the relationship we have with visual representation in this environment?

The discussion takes place in conjunction with A Passage of Force Through Matter, which features work by all six artists and is on view at MoCA Arlington through May 25.

When a tornado rips through Kansas, young Dorothy is whisked away to the magical land of Oz. She bravely embarks on a journey to Emerald City where she encounters a host of whimsical characters: good witches, bad witches, animals that talk, scarecrows that walk, and things magical to behold. Will Dorothy prevail over evil and make it back home? Follow the yellow brick road and find out with us! We recommend this production for ages 4 and older.

Energy Masters, EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension have teamed up with the City of Alexandria to launch a new Programmable Thermostat Pilot!

Through this program, you will be trained to install thermostats in the homes of Chatham Square residents to help them more effectively reduce their energy use and save money on their utility bills. Chatham Square is located in Old Town Alexandria. This property is managed by ARHA, the Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority, and features 100 market rate townhomes and 52 subsidized rental homes where we will be focusing our efforts. We welcome individuals, families and groups to join this project. No experience is necessary!?

The installation day will take place on May 31, 2025 from 8:30 am - 4 pm. If you are not able to commit to the entire day, time slots are available:

Time Slot A - 8:30 am - 4 pm (1-hour lunch)
Time Slot B - 8:30 am - 12 pm
Time Slot C - 12 pm - 4 pm

**While no experience is necessary, we will be providing a 90 minute virtual training on May 28, 2025 from 7-8:30 pm. This training will include the purpose of the pilot, how to install the thermostats, and thermostat operations. Upon registering, you will receive a Zoom link for the training. A recording will be provided if you are not able to attend the virtual training, and hands-on training will be provided on installation day.
