I WOULD NEVER GO BACK AGAIN- HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!
The reviews here are OVERRATED.
I went to this cafe for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. When we walked In, no one greeted us. We had to ask whether we sit down or order first. The lady at the cashier told us to sit down at any table and someone would come and take our order.
We sat at a table and no one seems to noticed us. I ended up going up to the register to grab the menu.
So I asked her again if someone was going to take our order.
She said:"Can you come up here and order if you don't mind?" I guess.... because we don't have a choice... Why did she even tell us that someone would come to take our order.
It was unpleasant and confusing from the beginning.
We ended up going up to the register to order. She took the order VERBALLY. I think 15 minutes later, she came to our table to confirm the order again. At this time, we still haven't got our tea and the sandwich.
The tea were OK, nothing to brag about. There was a dead fly inside our tea candle....
Overall, it was just horrible and they didn't seem to care about their customers.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 2, 2018
This cafe is just about as cute as a Porg (ya know those cute little birdy/rabbit penguin-like creatures in Star Wars Last Jedi).
It's just so freakin' adorable.
There is a mix of small tables with white leather chairs, larger tables with comfy woven material, and a back little banquet area with a giant raw tree slab table. So you definitely have your options.
I can't remember the exact flavor of the tea I got, but it was delicious.
THE BEST thing about the tea though is that it comes in this wonderful cup that sits on top of a ceramic candle holder with a tea light lit on the bottom, so your tea stays warm the entire time you drink it.
I'm talkin first sip warm, 20th sip warm, 31st sip warm, 40th sip warm, 47th sip warm, 49th sip warm, no matter how small your sips or how big this freakin' cup is, your tea is gonna stay warm.
Also, I did get a little egg sandwich snack which consisted of "Labne, boiled egg, tomato, spinach" and was served with a balsamic sauce. The sandwich was very fresh and tasty. The balsamic added a lot to the sandwich, and the labne, which was a creamy cheese mix was very tasty on the sandwich.
The woman who waited on me ( and who I also presume is the owner) was very very kind.
There is definitely a middle eastern flair to the place, that you can tell on the menu, and by some of the pastries and offerings in the front, and I can't wait to come back and try more.
Not too mention, the cafe puts out free mini snacks (Think M&Ms and pretzels) for you to snack on if you're not terribly hungry.
Definitely a good place to stop and relax if you're in the area.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Jan 24, 2018
I stopped in for an egg sandwich and tea and was charmed by the service and decor. The sandwich was nice and beautifully presented. The tea delivery is perfect for those who love drinking tea piping hot, down to the last drop. It's got a cute warming stand that is part of the standard delivery to customers.
Everything is super clean, even the bathroom (which has the prettiest sink in the women's bathroom, so you should check that out, lol).
I'm looking forward to trying a dessert or bringing a friend for brunch. This place is a hidden gem!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 11, 2017
What a beautiful and adorable cafe! Look at the pictures!
Atmosphere: It's clean, it's refreshing, it's classy in all white. Wonderful atmosphere with the little couch chairs for comfort. It's totally a place you can come and read for a day or sit near the window and people watch. It's just wonderful.
Food:
I loved the teas. They give you the tea in an adorable little teacup that sits on top of a candle so it can be kept warm for a long time (def never had cold tea there!). The cup is large enough that I didn't even have to get a refill (though they said they do hot water refills for free). Their cakes and desserts were good but some were more dry than others. I'd go for the more spongy looking ones if you want a moist cake. The cookies and pastries were not to my liking. One of the reasons I took off a star is for their lack of variety for food. It was lunch time and I really didn't care for their salad or lunch options. Earl's Sandwich shop is right next door so I went to get real food there and came back to the cafe for dessert and coffee. I think they can up their selections a bit more! =)
Otherwise though, the staff are all friendly. There was free WIfi you can connect to. It's the perfect place to grab a drink with an old friend or an old book. I will be visiting again!
Oh yes, street parking in front during non-busy times.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 152315835Jul 15, 2017
TLDR; good coffee, nice ambiance, fruit tart could have been better
Found myself craving a latte and a pastry this evening and was thrilled to find a coffee shop in the area still open at 9pm. I was pretty pleased with the latte, quite tasty despite decaf AND skim milk. Opted for a slice of the fruit tart (which really is more of a berry crumb cake) based on a recommendation from an employee, and while it was good, it was a bit dry and doesn't really stand out for the price ($5ish for a small piece).
The decor is super bright white and clean, makes for a nice atmosphere and place to work (free Wifi!) or just read.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ria K.Fairfax, VA625117166Nov 19, 2019
For me, the vibe of a cafe is the primary reason I go- whether it's for meeting a friend or doing some work, I want to enjoy the feel of the space while I am there. Blumen cafe offers an adorable interior, laid-back vibe, and a variety of seating, good for both socializing and doing some work.
I got a latte, and it was pretty standard, but the service was great and they bring it to you at the table.
It was pretty busy on a Sunday morning/afternoon, and it appeared that the owner and her daughters had some friends come over too, it appears that small dogs are also allowed.
I would love to come back and try some of the teas- I realized too late that that is what they are more well-known for, and the pairings of tea with food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Namita M.Arlington, VA94190186Jul 1, 2019
It is an experience to have tea here with candle keeping your tea hot, completely supporting long conversations. I went here with a friend couple of times, this place is her favorite place to read peacefully. The decor gives you Mediterranean soothing feeling. Wood tables are very stylish and comfortable with colorful pillows all around you makes it extra cozy. They have wide varieties of tea served as hot or cold.
We ordered pistachio cake here and surely one of the best pistachio cake I ever had, I would say better than the one I tried even in Italy!! They have other speciality desserts and baklava too.
They also have regular bakery items and coffee menu at this place. The staff is always smiling and welcoming. The place is close to metro and also parking is not that hard to find.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 10, 2019
Located in the busy Clarendon area, it seems poetic there would be a little bakery to escape to. The outside of the cafe blends in with the stores around it and doesn't stand out.
Similarly, I was not impressed with this bakery contrary to what I expected from reviews.
What I expect from an almost 5 star locale was certainly not met.
I visited Blumen Cafe on a Sunday around 12, and had no problem with parking (I'm sure usually parking would be hard to come by as is typical in Clarendon).
The area is very white and clean. It reminded me of a hospital cafeteria. Decor is minimal.
Our orders took a while to be ready even though there was no line and our orders were not complex. Once the orders arrive to the table, instead of passing out our drinks, our server left the tray and proceeded to the next table. The cashier was very pleasant and gave me tips on what to try.
I purchased a berry crumble, berry cheesecake tart, carrot cake, and a piña colada iced tea. I figured I would try most of the desserts that appealed to my eyes. This is my favorite part of visiting any bakery trying a little bit of everything. The best of all of these however, was the tea. Very true to its inspirational drink- it really tastes like a piña colada, minus the sun, rum, and sweetness. Basically a healthy take on a beloved high calorie blended adult beverage. After that, I enjoyed the berry cheesecake tart, perhaps because it was kept in the refrigerator it maintained its freshness, because both the crumble and the cake were unfortunately quite dry. I don't believe any of the pastries are baked here.
My friend purchased a cappuccino, "woman's tea", along with a croissant and a piece of baklava. She said that the cappuccino was delicious. The tea seemed to be a blend of a lot of different natural elements (my friend mentioned a lot of the ingredients are similar to ingredients you would find in teas for menstrual discomfort- so perhaps that's where the name comes from??)
The only thing I found to be unique was the serving of the tea with a candle heated bottom compartment to keep it warm. That was innovative and separated this small shop from any other I've been to.
Overall, I was not impressed with Blumen Cafe.
Perhaps it's best for coffee and catching up on schoolwork.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jen Y.Orange, CA2951147Aug 9, 2018
Came here for coffee and ended up eating a whole slice of this velvety , moist , with layers or layers of chocolate cake and both were absolutely amazing.
Definitely need to hit this cute and quaint coffee shop when I'm back in DC .
I wish I took a photo of the cake LOLHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan W.Arlington, VA2415646Jul 16, 2018
Stopped by here for a quick ice coffee to go around 6pm on a Monday. From the outside, it looks rather unassuming but has a very nice, modern interior reminiscent of Europe. Parking in the area is rather lacking, and the spots that are available are metered which makes this location a little inconvenient to get to.
The prices for drinks were very reasonable, with my ice coffee costing around $2.60 and most of the other drinks on the menu costing under $4. The coffee was pretty good, taste wise!
One thing to note that I thought was a little strange for a cafe - no trash cans. I had to give my trash directly to the guy behind the counter.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
