Event Description:
A performance by women traverses the terrain of relationship, the inventiveness of situation, and the progression of life. Forty+ features new works grounded in movement. An appealing theatricality reveals shaded humor and powerful communication through the female form. Choreographers Andie deVaulx and Sandra Atkinson contribute new works and recent works by Emily Crews and Jane Franklin are performed. Too Many Cooks by Emily Crews counts on concise and amusing kitchen maneuvers to contribute to the creative results. Recipes are realized through group effort with surprising results. Is it a hit or a miss? Artifact by Jane Franklin distills fragments of time, moments shaped by lives welllived. Photographs of the performers are projected as the movement progresses. The three individuals find connection through familiar experiences of youth, motherhood, and memory. Andie deVaulx newest work shifts eight dancers in interwoven patterns and Sandra Atkinson calls on improvisation and the structures of jazz music to find form. Two pieces by Jane Franklin excite in bluegrass fiddle, finding friendly partnership and swift pairings in the American roots music of Baltimore composer Patrick McAvinue. $15 General Admission Available online at http://www.janefranklin.com/performances/tickets Phone – 703.933.1111 Tickets at the door are $20
