Event Description:
The Arlington Historical Society (AHS) will hold its annual members meeting and elections at its next public program on Thursday, May 14. The purpose of the meeting is to elect the new board of directors and officers for the society, as well as discuss and vote on proposed changes to AHS bylaws. All AHS members in good standing are eligible to vote. Following the annual meeting, AHS will host Captain Michelle Nuneville, who will present “A History of the Arlington County Police Department.” The ACPD was formed on February 1, 1940 and this year celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary. Captain Nuneville will speak about the early years of policing in Arlington as the county transformed from rural to urban, and will address the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Captain Nuneville has been with the Arlington County Police Department for thirty years. She is currently the commander of the Department’s Homeland Security Section. Her experience includes, acting deputy chief of the Systems Management Division, Criminal Investigations Section Commander, and commander of the County’s Emergency Communications Center, Domestic Violence, Community Policing and a Certified Ethics Instructor. Captain Nuneville was responsible for the development of the police department’s 50th anniversary historical book and is now part of the department’s 75th anniversary committee. She teaches the police department’s history to new recruits.
Directions:
The hour-long program will begin at 7:00pm at Arlington Central Library Auditorium (1015 N. Quincy Street). A question-and-answer session will follow. The program is free and open to the public. For additional Central Library information, please contact 703-228-5990.
